<text>Embed intelligence throughout a nation-wide electrical grid, on both sides of the meter to enhance the efficiency of distribution and use. This will (A) accelerate the penetration of sources like solar & wind that are diurnal or intermittent; (B) take advantage of smart meters and distributed storage as plug-in cars become available; (C) permit power to be wheeled from where resources are rich to where electricity is needed; (D) provide tens of thousands of jobs and train workers to replace the baby boomers who will retire from utilities over the next 5-10 years. Start with the government-owned Bonneville Power Administration in the Northwest, learn what works, and extend the network across the country.

<text>The government has failed to take the lead on completing the task of moving the country completely to the SI metric system. George H.W. Bush tried to do something about it, but gave the bureaucrats an easy out. Failure to follow the same measurement standards as the rest of the world is costing US industry something like $1 trillion per year.</text>

<text>Create an official government website that will allow the people of the United States of America to suggest and vote for priority on items that they wish the chief technology officer (CTO) of the United States of America to address. ObamaCTO.org is an excellent step in the right direction, and deserves to be officially implemented by the government.

Implementation of the official website must include security and safety measures to prevent tampering or unfair manipulations of votes or suggestions, just like any official election.

Considerations should be made to ensure that any American citizen can access and give their input to the website, not just those who own personal computers and have easily accessible internet access.</text>

<text>"a personalized front end for government services. Think “Amazon for government,” where a vast array of products and data is personalized and displayed in simplified form. <text>The problem with money in politics is not that there's too much of it, it's that recipients of the money know who gave them the money. The CTO should develop a web-based system for blind-trust donations to political candidates. Donors would have no way of proving that their money went to a specific candidate, breaking the quid-pro-quo link. </text>

<text>How about instead of fixed number of points, you index them to the number of posts, or the number of registered users, or something dynamic rather than static? There are way too many good posts on this site I'd like to be able to vote for.

Further, now that the site has matured, early posts are becoming entrenched at the top, and the hundreds or newer ones are buried at the bottom, out of sight. There needs to be a better way of bringing good, newer posts out of obscurity, and providing more votes is necessary (but not sufficient) for that..</text>
